Shelly Botsford, NP

Nurse Practitioner located in Bismarck, ND

About Shelly Botsford, NP

“I have a real passion for helping women and men feel better about themselves,” she explained.  “When I realized I could help them reverse the appearance of premature aging, I decided to make that my life’s work.”

She’s Board Certified by the American College of Nurse Practitioners as a Family Nurse Practitioner, with both bachelors and masters degrees in nursing from the University of Mary – but that was just the beginning of her education.

Through post-graduate education, she’s become certified in Laser and Pulsed Light Therapy, as well as in the injection of neuromodulators such as Botox and Dysport, along with a variety of specially-formulated dermal fillers.  She is also certified in sclerotherapy, the treatment of spider veins of the legs.  Her commitment to education continues – Shelly adds new skills as new technology makes better treatments available.

“My family is a very “outdoor” family.  We’re avid boaters and kayakers, we love to fish and camp, we enjoy riding our horses and to hike in the mountains of Western Montana.  Because of that, I know from first-hand experience how easy it is to suffer from sun damage at any time of year – and because of that, I work with my patients to make sure they know how to prevent such damage.

“As an aesthetic dermatology practitioner, I like to teach people how to take care of their skin, how to achieve and maintain healthy skin – this includes correcting skin damage from the sun or other causes.  I get a real sense of pride when my patients are pleased with their outcomes.  When they know that they look better, they feel better about themselves, and I find it very gratifying to have a hand in that.

“My goal involves helping my patients achieve their own goals, to help them rediscover a more youthful and healthier natural appearance.  Often, men and women come to me not knowing what’s possible – not realizing that, after age 30, it generally takes more than one kind of procedure to help them achieve their own personal goals for their appearance.

“When patients come to me for the first time, I go through their current health regimen and medicines – if any – as well as their medical history. If they’ve had aesthetic treatments such as injectables in the past, I ask them what they liked – and what they didn’t like.  I ask them to look in the mirror and assess their face – I ask them what they see, and what they don’t like.

“This is generally a pretty intense and candid consultation, but the end result is that my patient and I agree on what he or she wants to look like – what will make the patient happy about his or her appearance.  That becomes our goal – and my goal.  I want each of my patients to look their natural best AS THEY themselves, not as I see them.

“At that point, I tell them what is possible, and what is not possible.  I want my patients to have very realistic expectations about what we can correct or improve, and what we cannot change.

“With that honest evaluation and complete shared understanding, we can map out a plan of treatments and procedures that will help every patient look their personal best.”

Shelly and her family live out in the country with their dogs and cats and horses. They love the Dakotas and enjoy the outdoors year-round. She and her husband have worked hard and successfully to strike a “best of both worlds” balance between the work they love and the family they adore.

With her very active family, Shelly enjoys sports, horseback riding – including dressage – as well as boating and kayaking, camping and mountain hiking, snow and water skiing and – in the depths of winter, a nice warm beach somewhere tropical.
